Super Time at the Super Bowl Village

Wednesday, Feb 1st was unseasonably warm for Indianapolis. No complaints since it's superbowl week in Indy! Isabel, Daniel, Derrick, Lolo Frank and I went to downtown to check out the Super Bowl Village and NFL experience.

It was crowded downtown as expected. We saw a lot of families enjoying the festivities. We even saw our friends, the Downings!

7 quick takes Vol 1

1. Daniel loves HOODIES. He has been wearing them with his hood up. So, so cute!

2. Isabel's first week in school: She only went 2 half days. Baby and I did well since we were only separated 4-5 hrs per day. It's a different ball game when it will be 24-30 hrs apart. My first hospital call is in a week. Since I'm anxious, this verse comes to mind: Philippians 4:6-7 which starts like this "have no anxiety about anything...."

3. Plugged duct again! I saw my family doctor, finally called my OB, called the Lactation consultants (again for the 6th time) and met with them to review the basics. I am currently on antibiotics to finally, hopefully resolve this issue. Praise God for a normal Ultrasound!

4. Super Bowl village -- the entire Delima family went. It was such a warm, nice day in Indy (temps hit the 60s!)

5. Komen stops funding Planned Parenthood announced earlier this week. However, before the work week ended, the big advocacy group did a 180 on their decision.
6. Vera get carried away tote -- Fail!!!! I went to work for half a day last Tues and the bag was too heavy. I needed to disperse the weight so I got myself a hot pink backpack as my pump bag.The rest of my stuff can be placed in my not-as-big VERA tote.

My --{place an adjective}-- work bag

Tell me what you think about my workbag. I bought it before Isabel was born. When I was pregnant with her, I have (1) a work bag, (2) lunch bag, (3) neuro doctor bag. Since I will be pumping again when I go back to work, I will have (4) a breast pump bag to carry. So I decided to buy the biggest ever tote made by Vera Bradley: the "get carried away tote". Oh yeah I got carried away. It's HUGE!

I have been asking Derrick if people at work will laugh or make fun of me bec of my BIG bag. I decided to consolidate my bags into ONE HUMONGOUS one.

Here's a pict with Isabel for full effect -- the tote is wider than me and Isabel combined!

I can put a lot of stuff inside! Folders and books for work, my umbrella, water bottle and coffee cup and of course pump parts! my lunch bag can also fit in there!

So when asked: why such a big bag?
Derrick says I should answer: I have my baby in there!
My friend Sheila says: I have my breast pump, breast milk and baby in there!

What do you think? Am I crazy for using such a big bag? What should I tell people giving me weird looks as I pass by?

I am a newbie to Jennifer Fulwiler's website: conversiondiary. Here are my answers to her questions as I introduce myself to her (and her readers!):

1. Tell me a little bit about your own spiritual journey: what were your religious beliefs when you were younger? What are your religious beliefs now (if different)?

I am a cradle Catholic. Baptized and confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church. I attended Catholic schools all the way to highschool. I experienced “spiritual dryness” and dark times (if one can call them that) during college. I still attended church but when I was sitting on the pews, it felt like the altar was miles away. I asked and asked God how I can be close to him and finally during medical school, I met 3 wonderful amazing Christian women that ignited a spark inside me. We had Bible study and faith sharing during the first 2 years of medical school. At the same time, I started reading more about the Church. I searched for the truth and I am thankful that the Lord has placed this knowing in my heart that I am truly with Jesus and at home with the Church.

2.Where are you from?

Born in the Philippines and then moved to the US just in time for college where I met my amazing husband. We started dating while I was in medical school and got engaged 10 months later. We got married on the Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary and been married for 5 years! We have a 2 ½ yo boy: Daniel and 2 mo old baby girl: Isabel.

3. What is one book* that has had a great impact on your life (other than the Bible)?

I like a lot of books: but the one book that really started my “wanting to read more” about the Church was Rome Sweet Home by Scott and Kimberly Hahn. Since then, I have read (and enjoyed) Catholic for a Reason, Building Better Families, Mother Angelica's Little Book of Life Lessons and Everyday Spirituality, Search and Rescue, The Lamb’s Supper, Hail Holy Queen: The Mother of God in the Word of God and tons more!

I also like CS Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia, Completely His, Every Woman's battle,The Five Love Languages.

4. Tell me a little bit about your daily life: what is a typical day like for you? What’s your favorite part of each day?
Currently I am a stay at home mom on my maternity leave! Just had my little Isabel who is 2 months old.

My other full time job is being a child neurologist in training (what they call resident doctors!) I work 60-80 hours a week. I love my job. But my favorite part of the day is coming home and receiving a big embrace from my Daniel! And pretty soon, getting that smile from Isabel when I return from the hospital or clinic!

I love that at the end of the day (after a busy day of being a mom and a doctor) I get a big hug from my husband as I sleep!

Where does prayer come in my day: ANYTIME! Getting out of bed: I say a quick thanks and praise to God, while driving, while seeing patients, while walking or running up and down the stairs, while making dinner, while changing diapers, anytime! My most effective prayer (esp when I am stressed out and anxious) is: Jesus, I love you.

Date nights and get-aways

So how important is date night for married couples?

Derrick and I prebabies had our date night every Friday night. I was a busy med student then so we made sure we had time just the two of us. We started this habit early on, so it becomes a habit when we are busy running around with children (yup, that's me planning ahead!) Then post-baby, we were more realistic: we made sure we go out once a month. One thing we told ourselves to do is going away for our anniversary EVERY YEAR. We got this idea from our marriage sponsors (marriage godparents).Going away for us refreshes and renews us. It also shows where our priorities are. Some couples may not afford going away for a weekend anniversary. So a solution: make it an even SPECIAL date night. How about for those who cannot even afford to go on a date? well, just be creative! why not ask family or friends to babysit the kids (let the kids spend the night with them ) and celebrate anniversary night at home!

Priorities -- yes you bet my relationship with my spouse should be my number one priority. That's one lesson I learned from our pre-marriage retreat. Imagine a clothesline: the husband and wife are the end sticks and the bond between them is the line. The children are the "clothes" that hang on the clothesline. This clothesline or bond needs to be strong because the children thrive and depend on the love between their parents.

Our children need immediate attention so we give them that. But I (pray to) always remember that immediate/emergency things are not always the most important. Derrick is the most important person for me. I make my relationship with him my priority.

So how are we doing with our date nights after Isabel is born? We haven't been out just the two of us and she is already 2 months old. But we have one planned for tomorrow --- oh I am excited! Lolo and Lola are babysitting and we are going to our favorite Italian restaurant just a few miles from our house. With Daniel, it took us (or me mostly) 6 weeks to finally leave the house without the baby. I have been away twice now (to see the dentist!) without Isabel but it was not with Derrick. Derrick and I have taken isabel on our lunch or brunch dates. She sleeps through the entire meal (lucky us!) The grandparents also kept Daniel several Friday nights -- so even though we have a new baby to take care of, Derrick and I were able to rent movies and spend time just the two of us (in between changing diapers and nursing Isabel!)

As for our anniversary get-away, we were lucky to go places every single year. Blessed that we have family to watch our children and opportunities to drive out of town. This year (just like when Daniel was less than a year old), we will have to stay close to home. And maybe just one night away from baby Isabel instead of a full weekend. You bet, it will still be special. And I am always excited to get away with my Derrick.

I was inspired to write this entry by my friend Christie Ly, who just had a date night with her hubby..... Hope you had fun girl!

Growing so fast!

My little Isabel is 2 months old already! WOW! We had to take our monthly picture late last night. The lighting is not perfect and we only have my point and shoot camera and iPhone cam to take pictures. But Derrick and I know, she will cherish these picts when she gets older. We as parents already cherish them!
We are using Daniel's board (my Valentine's gift for him last year). We only have one for each letter of the alphabet so we had a dilemma for upcoming months: THREE, SEVEN, NINE. So we decided to use different languages for the numbers! last month was in English: ONE (easy enough). This month, in French! For sure, when turns 5 mos, we will use LIMA (Filipino/Tagalog word for 5) same as our last name: deLIMA.
So again sorry for the yellow picture. our pictures last night were either bright or yellow. bummer. Cannot wait for my sister to come visit us and take pictures of my baby girl who is growing so fast!
Please pray for our little girl too: she is still battling the cough and cold she got from her Kuya Daniel. She is still eating well and playing and cooing. Thanks be to God!

More.... we saw the pediatrician today for a well child check.
Isabel is 10 lbs 15 oz (50th percentile) and 22 inches long (25-50th percentile)

2 weeks left and counting (second time around)

2 weeks left and counting... But this time around, not waiting for a baby to be born --- but anxious about going back to work. So how's having baby #2?

Lessons I learned (and won't do again):
-not procratinate working out during pregnancy. I was very active with my first pregnancy and exercised till a week before giving birth. With Isabel, I slept and slept and ate and ate. Yes, I gained weight -- 42 lbs of heaviness.
-Not wait till 6 weeks postpartum to get back to my workout routine. I was ready to work out with my first baby at 2 weeks postpartum. Hubby (and yes OB) said that's way too soon. So this time, I waited until 6 weeks (after the holidays). well..... the baby weight is depressing me. I should have started at 3-4 weeks as recommended by my OB. Then I could have lost more lbs before I go back to work and maybe fit in some work clothes...

-Not have a winter baby. Isabel at 8 weeks already has a URI (upper respiratory infection: runny nose and cough) given by guess who: Kuya Daniel.

With Daniel, we walked outside at 2 weeks postpartum and continued to do so every day of my leave. It was summer: sunny, warm, wonderful. With Isabel, we are stuck inside the house. It's winter: gloomy, cold, sad.

Lessons I learned:
-if a baby is stubborn with his/her latch-on at birth, then better resolve the problem right then (rather than wait at 8 weeks of age when he/she is even more stubborn.) I am battling my 4th case of plugged duct in 2 weeks. talk about breast milk oversupply!
-tons of lessons about breastfeeding! From olive oil used to treat milk bleb/blister to weaning from the pump as I have freezer stash enough to feed triplets -- well maybe not, exaggerating there.
Even though I nursed my son for 15 months, I am still learning this second time around. My 2 children are different! One was a slow nurser taking his sweet time. The other one is an efficient baby, who is done nursing in 6-8minutes. And she is content and full after one breast!

What I am thankful for:
-being with my Isabel for 10 weeks. Learning her cues, bonding with her and gazing at her lovely face while sleeping... and crying...
-going back to a job that I like. It was difficult coming back to work after 14 weeks with Daniel. I know this time is not any different.
-Daniel loving his little sister! He comes home from school and as soon as he sees me, he asks: "Where's Isabel?" (What happened to "Hi mummy!")
-our family and friends who brought us food and babysat for us so we could run errands, go to doctor appointments, etc.... Thanks to grandparents who kept Daniel overnight (several times) so we could (maybe) sleep-in some mornings.
-having a Thanksgiving baby bec I had maternity leave during Christmas! (But again, no more winter babies after Isabel)
- My supporting husband who stays up with me during fussy nights, changes diapers when I have to tend to my plugged duct, watches the kids so I can dance some Zumba and so many more gestures of love.

I sound like an echo to a lot of moms when I say this: it's tough having a newborn, but it's all so worth it. Yes, Derrick and I are still praying for more children after our 2 munchkins. But with God's plan, we hope to space them just a little bit farther apart. Maybe not 2 years apart like Daniel and Isabel... How's 3-4??? haha.

Love every minute. Be grateful every day.
Positive things I pray for daily. Especially when I get depressed that I will be apart from my little girl pretty soon......

I have been sick this past week with runny nose and cough and temperature up to 102.6F. I hate taking medicine! YUCK! It takes two people to pin me down.But once I have the medicine, my fever goes away and I go back to playing and dancing. 3 days into the fever, I found out I have an ear infection. So guess what, another 10 days of taking medicine: yuck,yuck,yuck.

My Lola babysat me last Wednesday bec mummy was trying to separate Isabel from my germs. I love giving my li'l sister kisses. But I was not allowed to kiss her face or her head yet bec of my runny nose. I gave her feet kisses instead!

This was a conversation I had with my Lola Iryn last Wednesday:

Me: Where'd Daddy go?

Lola Iryn: He went to work.

Me: Work?

Lola Iryn: yeah, work. He is an accountant.

Me: A-cow-nan?

Lola Iryn: Do you want to be a doctor or an accountant?

Me: A-cow-nan.

Lola Iryn: Do you want to be an accountant or a doctor?

Me: A-cow-nan.

(My daddy's job is cooler than my mummy's!)

5 weeks of God's promise

My name: Isabel Francesca.

My birthday: 11.25.11

(Day after Thanksgiving, aka Black Friday)

I am named after Elizabeth, Mary's cousin and John the Baptist's mother; and St. Isabel of Portugal (who is Elizabeth of Aragon, who became Queen of Portugal). Mummy and Papi chose the Spanish version of Elizabeth because of St. Isabel and since the name starts with an "I" like my mummy's name: Isis. For the story of St. Isabel of Portugal, click here.

Francesca came from my papi's dad (my Lolo Francisco 'Frank' Delima) and my mummy's great Lola (Apung Cisca: Francisca Lozano). She was my great, great Lola! My Lolo Frank was born October 4th, the feastday of St. Francis of Assisi.

I have an awesome Kuya (big brother) Daniel. I enjoy his kisses and hugs.

here are some pictures I am sharing for my first blog post:

I am still a little swollen here, just a few hours after birth. According to my papi, my mummy did a great job with the delivery. She enjoyed Thanksgiving with the entire family the day before (with me still inside!). She then went into labor 6am on Friday. After 10 hours of labor (without meds, natural just like with my Kuya) and about 15 minutes of pushing, I was born at 4:06 pm. I was a pound heavier than my kuya Daniel. He was 6 lbs 5 oz at birth and I weighed 7 lbs 3 oz. I was only 5 days early from my due date (whereas Kuya Daniel was 8 days early!)

I am lucky to be born before Christmas. It's such a festive time of the year.

At 2 weeks old: I look satisfied after eating! Kuya Daniel thought I was drinking lemonade from mummy. How funny!

Three weeks old....

I turned 1 month on Christmas Day.
I weighed 9 lbs 2 oz.

All smiles at 5 weeks.

My chubby cheeks are getting chubbier each day!

I have 5 more weeks with my mummy staying at home. She loves being a full time mummy. And I love being with her.

I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at the Downtown Central Library with my mummy and daddy a couple of weeks ago. I am 16 months old now... My mummy has not posted new pictures here in awhile. (She had an Intensive Care Unit rotation and just started her Neurology training in October. That's her excuse).

The brickwall in front of our house was placed for one reason. That one reason is to stop all incoming cars from wrecking havoc to our home. Yesterday, the brickwall has proven its good use again.

Years ago, there was another big pine tree where this brickwall is now located. A car lost control during the turn and hit the pine tree. The fallen pine tree then collapsed and hit the front living room window. Then the brickwall was built.

Our hedge is ruined right in the middle.

Lord, Thank you our home is ok. Thank you for this brickwall.

I wanted to share some pictures from my trip to Charleston back in April. It's my papi's fault that these weren't up sooner.
This was our first stop in Charleston. My papi and mummy wanted to start at this church and cemetary. I was a little scared of the tombstone next to us. It had my name on it!

I saw a lot of horsees with carriages in Charleston. Too bad we didn't ride one!

This was our last day in Myrtle Beach. We had lunch at the Market Commons -- a fairly new shopping center. My mummy liked it there. She eventually got tired of the tourist-y spots. Here's a picture with my great-lola.

Our family went to Myrtle Beach, SC for a fun, relaxing vacation. It was Daniel's first time at the beach. This lucky boy had seen the Pacific Ocean (last month when we visited Nathaniel, Lady and Dean, and Derrick's family) and this time, the Atlantic Ocean.

My Mummy is working nights this month. My Papi is superdad -- taking care of me while she's at work. Papi and I miss mummy though. I get to see her when she "sleeps" during the day. As for my papi, he sees her for 30 minutes in the afternoon before she has to go back to work. My mummy takes care of really, really sick babies at work. She tells me that she's glad that I am healthy and chubby!

7 month birthday coming up!

I am such a big boy! My 7th-month birthday is coming up this weekend. I wonder if the family is going to Schezwan Garden this month. Since my 4th month birthday, my family have gone to the Chinese restaurant to celebrate.

My first road trip was this past weekend when I visited Auntie Hannah in St. Louis. She took tons and tons of pictures of me. I loved it! I smiled and giggled away.

Last week, I also saw my Ninang (godmother in Filipino) Heather. She is a postulant for The Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity. She loves her first year in New Mexico. This summer, she will start wearing her habit. I loved playing with her Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal pendant. Next time, I see her, she will be wearing her veil and crucifix. Cannot wait to grab her crucifix! The SOLT sisters are not just from the US. There is a mission in the Philippines too!

It's mummy's day off! And I had tons of fun hanging out with her!

It was my first time at the New Central Library Downtown. Mummy picked up some books on CD (she says she is stuck in traffic during afternoon rush hour and wants to divert her frustration to praising God instead!)

Tough start

Back at work and it's day 2. Rough tough start.
My little one cried and cried at daycare today, looking for me. How traumatizing. We spent all day Sunday together and part of Sat (when I got back post-call from the hosp). He's asleep now and I had a chance to do a little bit of reading. Now I am off to bed...because it's another workday tomorrow. I do miss Daniel when I am at work. I have his pictures everywhere. I open this blog during my breaks. I have tons of picts of him here... Here are two more to add to my collection

We cheered for the Colts as they played against the 49ers. Derrick is a huge Niner fan. He was proud of their performance yesterday. #18 did not score a touchdown.

First week of school

Today is my 3rd day in school at Bishop Chatard Trojan Tots. I love mornings. When my mum and dad drop me off, I give everybody a big smile and tons of giggles. I have been going half days this week. The real, full-day thing is on Friday when my mum is officially going back to work.

I am still not fond of the bottle but I am working on it. I cry and cry a lot looking for my mum. So far, I have only taken 1/2 oz when my mum leaves me for half a day. Today is a slightly longer day. She has meetings at work, so I won't see her until after lunch. oh boy, I do need to take the bottle if I am really hungry!

Outside My Window... leaves falling, chill in the air. Fall is here.

I am thinking. . . I haven't written a simple woman daybook entry for awhile.

I am thankful for. . . my little one. Daniel is adorable. That cute smile, little coos and giggles! He is gaining weight like a champ! He doubled his birthweight already.

From the kitchen. . . Filipino soup called Sinigang and Bolgogee! also some salad and strawberries to complete my meal. Oh yeah,how about left over Dulce de Leche cheesecake. I did not finish the slice yesterday. Yum!

I am wearing. . . my yellow Hello Kitty pjs, green long-sleeved top from AE.

I am going. . . back to work in <3weeks.

I am reading . . . Nursing Mother, Working Mother, by Gale Pryor and Kathleen Huggins.

I am hoping. . . that Daniel will take the bottle again.

I am hearing. . . white noise from the baby monitor and the Colts game vs the Titans. yay for the Colts!

Around the house. . . definitely a place lived-in by a family with a little one. Swing, pack and play, blanket for tummy time, diaper bag, my sling.

One of my favorite things. . . spending time with my hubby. Unfortunately, we had to postpone our downtown anniversary get-away which was supposed to be last night. Daniel just refused to take the bottle this week. Daniel took the bottle before. He took expressed breastmilk whenever Derrick and I would go to dinner for 1-2 hours.

A few plans for the rest of the week. . .

It's Columbus day tomorrow. Thank you for the federal holidays. My hubby is free.
Pick up my dad's new (used) car!
Fall break - so the new mom group is not meeting this week.
But we are attending the breastfeeding support group on Thurs.

I have been home for 11 weeks now. It has been 11 weeks since this cutie pie was born! He is getting so big. His current weight:12 lbs 7 oz. He needs 3 more oz and he'd double his birthweight.

We are making good use of our time together. I, as his mummy, am learning about him; definitely building this loving, strong attachment that will grow even stronger even when I go back to work.

Daniel and I have been attending a new mom class at the hospital where he was born. It's nice to connect with other moms and share ideas. We talked about preparing family meals today. Other topics we have discussed included: babyproofing the house, introducing solids, taking care of mom, parenting according to your baby's temperament. This free class is led by a peds nurse practitioner.

My mummy and I have been going to the breastfeeding support group for 4 weeks now. It's our weekly day out. I also get weighed before and after a feeding. This is my weight gain:
8/13 7 lbs 14 oz
8/20 8 lbs
8/27 9 lbs (my mum could not believe it -- I gained a pound in a week!)
9/3 9 lbs 13 oz (almost another pound again from last week. wow)
I am definitely a growing boy! Look at my chubby cheeks.

First week alone

This week was Derrick's first week back to work. I am definitely feeling the lack of sleep. I try not to wake up Derrick at night so he could rest. But last night was tough. I slept while feeding the little one. We were in the nursery sitting on the glider. Little Daniel was safe in my arms.

Good news: Yesterday was Daniel's 1 month well child check. He is a whopping 8 pounder baby! yay! His length is 20 inches. He grew 1/2 inch in the past month! So while Derrick and I are not sleeping, our little one is sleeping and growing... not a bad trade! As my pediatrician mentioned yesterday, it will get better. I believe her. I think so too.

It is great being alone with my little one. But we do miss Derrick. Especially when my stomach is grumbling and I need a helping hand or when I desperately want to take a shower but little Daniel wants to be held. These are just selfish reasons but truly, Daniel and I miss Derrick. 3 hours at night are not enough for spending time with Derrick. We will make it up this weekend!

10 random things

1. Today is Tita Lady's birthday! She is 24 years old -- and that's really old compared to my age! She is pregnant. I am excited to have a cousin. I hope my cousin is a girl. (it's a surprise).

2. My baptism was last Sunday August 9th. My godmother is Heather Danda. I was hungry during the baptism so I cried and cried. But after eating, I had a great time sleeping while my family and friends ate lunch :)

3. I am 4 weeks old tomorrow.

4. My Papi remembers tummy time everyday. I actually flipped from my tummy to my back by accident. It was fun.

5. Last Thurs, I was 7 lbs 10 oz.

6. My next well child check up is next Thurs. I wonder what my weight will be.

7. Papi is going back to work tomorrow. Mummy and I will miss him a lot.

8. My Lola Iryn made me a cloth book: Daniel's book.

9. I am still trying out the new cool things I received before I was born. This was the first time I did not cry when I was placed on the swing.

Daniel Isaac born 7.20.09 at 1452.

Birth weight: 6 lbs 5 oz

Length: 19.5 inches

Head circumference: 31 cm

Early Labor started 11p Sunday night but I was able to sleep for about 1.5 hrs. When I got up to use the bathroom, the cramping was still present. And I could not sleep anymore. I woke up Derrick after a few more consistent cramping every 5-7 mins. We called the OB on call at 4:30a but we knew I was still in early labor so no chance of going to the hosp yet. The OB-on call adviced us to notify them when the contractions are consistently every 5mins or less. I tried to sleep some more as adviced by the OB-on call and failed (as expected). I knew I had to save my strength. At 6a, I went to take a shower -- I just had to do something and I was getting ready for the BIG day! At 8:30a, we called the OB clinic. We were asked to go to the clinic for a cervical check and fetal reactive tracing. (I could probably have been sent to the hosp then if I wanted an epidural. But since I wanted to go natural and I was still smiling even with the contractions, they opted to bring me to the clinic).

At the clinic, baby Daniel had a consistent heart rate on the 140s but since I was hungry (and did not really feel like eating either) he was not moving as much as my OB wanted. I was offered apple juice and cheerios which I ate slowly. And as expected, the baby's heart rate reacted with the contractions.

At 10:30a, my cervix was 4 cm dilated and I had more and more bloody mucus (bloody show).

We were sent home to relax and take walks etc. but my OB said if I had to concentrate more and more with the contractions then we have to go to the hosp. If we haven't gone to the hosp or called her by 1p, she wanted a quick update anyway.

So Derrick and Mom ate lunch at home and at that point, I knew the contractions were getting stronger. I was pacing all over the first floor of the house, used my exercise ball, and concentrated with my breathing with every contraction. I asked to be brought to the hosp right after they ate. I tried to eat as well but only a little bit since I felt nauseous.

We were on our way to the hosp at 1245p. Arrived at the hosp around 1p. After they checked the contration and fetal heart tracing again and finished their History and Physical (which showed that I was 7 cm dilated!!! oh yes I was on active labor and knew the hardest part is coming -- the transition phase!), my amniotic sac broke. When it happened, I was about to get up bec the nurse asked me if I'd like to take a walk, use the shower or the hot tub, or sit on the birthing ball, etc.

The transition phase came and it was definitely LABOR!

What a weird sensation, with increasing strength of the contractions, I could feel my uterus pushing (by itself!) and I truly felt the urge the push. The nurse called my OB bec of how fast my labor was progressing. My OB came and was running to the hosp. And I was 10 cm dilated when she checked! yup, I was ready to push!

It's funny that I know in my head how to push after seeing women in labor, however, I was still very much out of sync! I was not pulling my legs, instead I would grip the top of the bed. I was extending my neck instead of crunching. I would push while exhaling when I should keep my breath in. But one thing I remember, I was able to hold my breath and push for the full 10 seconds!

After a few more contrations - I think I finally got it - I was able to push the little one!!! I was so excited to see his face! He was placed on my chest/abdomen skin to skin! I was able to breastfeed before they took him for measurements. He is a good latcher, very awake and active. (probably bec I did not get any pain meds -- not even Tylenol).

I looked at him. I forgot how painful the contractions were (now I know 10/10 pain). I did not even feel the pinch of the needle for the local anesthetic -- it was nothing compared to the labor.

My mom asked me if I'd still do it again natural since the experience is still fresh on my mind and I answered "yes, I will do it again natural". The pain was worth it for little Daniel. The pain I also offered up to the Lord for all those little children that do not have parents that love them.

I looked at my little Daniel on my chest. I was speechless. He is perfect!

What a great feeling! I am a mother!

Hello everybody-
I am still inside my mummy. She is 38 weeks + 2 days today. I am due to be born on July 28th. But I like surprises and I can come anytime now. The last time mum went to her doctor, she was not even close to delivering me. She is going back to see the doctor today.

I keep reminding my mum (by kicking her and moving her belly) that she needs to s--l---ooo----www down. She is trying to be Wonderwoman or something. I am proud of her though. She still works out, lifts 2 lbs of weights, squats, bridges, tries to walk around the block s---u----p-----e---r slow. But her hips are her main aches. They are expanding in preparation for my delivery. She cannot tolerate long periods of time in one position -- whether it is sitting, standing, lying down. Her hips love the exercise ball though. She watered her colorful flowers yesterday and she was aching after the chore. Thanks to Papi: he saw her struggling with the hose and he came out and helped her finish the watering.

Mum is still working until I decide to come out. Her last day of work is on July 26th. She works half the time at home and half the time at the Neuro clinic doing her research. She ran errands today besides reading a few articles. One stop was the Trojan Tots Preschool and Child Care Ministry at Bishop Chatard Highschool next to our Church (Christ the King). I have a spot there already when mum goes back to work.

Things I love: exercising my legs! I love to kick, punch and make funny shapes on my mummy's belly. I can make her belly look like a football if I want to. Most of the time, her belly looks like a basketball though.

My most active time: I am awake around 5p-8p dinner time! I also know when she is retiring for the day. That's when I make her belly bounce!

I am thankful for. . . my labor support partner. I am not alone.

From the kitchen. . . spicy braised beef. Crock pot recipes are awesome! My husband's belly is satisfied!

I am wearing. . . my blue VS nightgown.

I am going. . . to (try to) sleep soon.

I am reading. . . Hail, Holy Queen: The Mother of God in the Word of God by Scott Hahn.

I am hoping. . . to have a restful sleep tonight w/ less awakenings. I get up every 2-3 hours now to use the bathroom and also to move around. There's no comfy spot anymore. It also takes me 20-30 minutes before I go back to sleep. I stayed up for an hour last night, read and ate actually because I could not go back to sleep.

I am hearing. . . the soft hum of the AC. It's quiet in the house. My hubby is studying.

Around the house. . . the pack and play is all assembled (thanks to Heather's help!); the stroller is ready; the car seat and base are in Derrick's car; my hospital bag is packed.

One of my favorite things. . . laying out. I bust out my preggy belly before the stretch marks appear.

A few plans for the rest of the week. . .

I am still working. I have peds continuity clinic tomorrow and I am working at the Neuro office for my research.

Married for 1000 days

July 3, 2009 - Derrick and I have been married for 1000 days. (It's like commemorating the 100th episode of a TV show or something). I did not even know that July 3rd was our 1000th day as Mr. and Mrs. Delima but we ended up spending the entire day together. It's his day off and my day off. We had brunch (pancakes and nutella crepes!) then we picked up the dresser for Daniel's room and then we went to the movies. I love days like that with my hubby.

I am so blessed to have him. I love him more and more each day.

This is where I should deliver: Hau Sheng Hospital in Yuanlin in central Taiwan. It's a Hello Kitty themed hospital. "Director Tsai Tsung-chi opened the hospital with T$100 million ($3 million) in his hometown of 126,000 because his mother, wife and daughter all like the cartoon cat." I can see Derrick going all out for me... but maybe not a hospital. well, maybe.. since I am doctor.

Outside My Window... spring is in the air -- tons of tree pollen! I am having an allergy flare-up.

I am thinking. . . of my growing baby. I call him my awesome soccer player. He can really kick.

I am thankful for. . . my mother who is organizing my baby shower. She's amazing -- mother's day is coming up!

From the kitchen. . . I brought the usual: grapes, yogurt, pasta.

I am wearing. . . my scrubs and cami -- which are getting tighter and tighter! I am extra uncomfortable today. I also have a gray zip-up hoodie which would not zip up anymore. It is tight in the middle section (as expected).

I am going. . . to answer more Prep board questions about Endocrinology -- my rotation for the month of May.

I am reading. . . the Book of Daniel.

I am hoping. . . for a manageable call night tonight at the hosp.

I am hearing. . . beeping monitors. The call room walls are not that sound-proof.

Around the house. . . we have our binder and handouts from our lamaze/birthing class. We started last week. It's a 7-week course which includes breathing/relaxation techniques, labor and delivery and breastfeeding.

One of my favorite things. . . my pink water bottle filled with water, which keeps me hydrated throughout the day.

"Babymoon"

I am really excited for this week's trip. Mummy and Papi are going to San Fran for their babymoon. A babymoon is a pre-baby vacation for expecting parents. Papi is planning their week. They are going to see the Golden Gate, Alcatraz Prison, Fisherman's Wharf and so much more. Papi likes bringing mum to places she's never been. I want to be just like my Papi when I grow up!

What got my mum really excited is the plan to go eat at Jollibee and Goldilocks... Jollibee is the #1 fastfood chain in the Philippines. Oh, Mum loves ChickenJoy (Fried Chicken) and the Spaghetti (sweeter Filipino meat sauce)! And for dessert, she will have Halo-Halo (mixture of shaved ice,milk, and various fruits -- bananas, macapuno, jackfruit,nata de coco, purple yam, corn, flan, ice cream)!

Mum, sorry that I scared you when you were on-call last week. You thought you were having a DVT when woken up with an acute, severe left calf pain. But when it went away, I am glad you were relieved it was just cramping... I know it has happened 4 times now. Most recent one was last night. You scared Papi last night. You woke up screaming and crying. It was your left leg again. Although you have felt cramping before on your right calf as well. Mummy, you have low Calcium bec I am taking it all for my growing bones. Look at my femur :) It's growing every single day thanks to you!

I am also impressed that you own your first-ever pill box now. I thought only old people have pill boxes. I cannot blame you. You have to take your prenatal vitamins, your Vit B6, Colace, Folic Acid, Allegra and now Tums!

You heard my heart beat today at your OB visit. Please slow down your weight gain. Stay away from sweets. I know you like them a lot -- chocolates, cheesecake and ice cream! yumm! Moderation is key. I don't want your heart working so hard with all that increased weight and increased blood volume. You don't want to have high blood pressure do you? I don't...

Shopping for baby -- or for me?

I spent my morning looking at baby bags and baby slings.
I found this really classic designer bag. Free shipping right now. The Vera Bradley designs are hard to match with slings and the baby room....(btw, I have started looking at baby stuff last week. The registry is still not complete.)

As for baby slings, I wanted the sling to match the bag. I am holding off buying the sling. I will stop by Nordstrom sometime to check them out. They also have slings at USA baby.

It's definitely exciting to find stuff for my baby. Derrick and I are excited!

I am hoping... to adapt soon from my busy ward schedule as a wife and intern. This month is my first month in the wards. And I'd like to cook for my hubby :)

I am hearing... the washing machine working really hard down in the basement and Derrick's laptop's fan.

Around the house... I have my dance bag with ballet and jazz shoes, leotards and tights, leg warmers and shorts. I was rusty today in ballet class. I haven't done barre work in a month.

Day 1 - Tues 10/21
We arrived in Tampa at 1p and went grocery shopping. We realized right away that traffic in Tampa is not that great -- with all of the constructions and congested highways. But while stuck in traffic, we found this radio station: SpiritFM (Catholic and Christian station) and heard about Theology on Tap that night. Guess what we did: oh yeah, we crashed their party. The topic was faithful citizenship. Very appropriate since the national election is coming up.

We drove to Clearwater to enjoy some sun, sand and gulf water. It was the first game of the World series so we went to Ybor City to watch the game.

It was bleak, cloudy, gray day. We drove along the gulf coast -- from St. Pete Beach to Clearwater (again) but the rain followed us.

Day 5 - Sat 10/25
It was time to go to Anna Maria Island -- an hour get-away, quiet, resort south of Tampa/St Pete. The skyway bridge was impressive. This was also Aimee and Alex's wedding, Jamie's birthday and gross anatomy team 1 reunion (minus J).

Day 6 - Sun 10/26
A relaxing Sunday just in Anna Maria Island. We went to Church at SS. Peter and Paul Church in Bradenton. And God blessed us with a beautiful, beautiful sunset!

Off to Tampa to see the Prathers! But before that, we went to the northshore of Anna Maria Island and I killed even more skin cells in my body.... Derrick just stayed under the shade. We also watched the Colts vs Titan game that night. I cannot believe Colts are 3-4. Nooooo! I wore my personalized colts jersey (tnx hubby!) and was very proud even though we still lost.

October is just around the corner. I cannot believe it. Derrick and I are newlyweds for 715 days today. So what are we planning for next month to celebrate 2 years of togetherness? We are going to Tampa Bay to attend a friend's wedding, making the trip 2-in-1. It will be a balance of "alone together" and visiting medical school friends. I just pray that there will be no hurricanes coming our way. Derrick just booked a condo/resort at the westshore of Tampa. NEAT!

Dear Lord, Thank you for blessing me with my life and my family. Protect Derrick always and give him strength. I am so thankful that I have him. He is an inspiration and an angel. 2 months later

I am so thankful for the past two months. I graduated. I witnessed my sister's wedding. My grandma was here to spend time with us. Derrick and I went to Hawaii. I also worked on my new house and backyard. And right before work started, I went to St. Louis and Philly (surviving some rough thunderstorms while driving my beetle!)

And now, I have survived 3 shifts as a young doctor. It was definitely a good thing starting at the Emergency Dept. I never feel alone! My attendings and the staff are amazing! Always there to help and update you about your patients.

Of course, I miss my hubby. I get home late at night that he next thing we know, we are snoozing. Yet tonight was wonderful. We walked from our house to B-rip and ate dinner at Bazbeaux It was a good workout and good quality time spent making fun of the ducks and what Derrick calls "nature" mess at the canal/trail path (I mostly did the "making fun of the ducks"...Derrick is super nice and kind!)

Well..... time to snooze now. It's another day at the ED tomorrow.

I am done with med school! Yay! yesterday was my last day on rotation. Today, I turned in my pager, my mailbox keys, checked my grade status and competency requirements -- and I get the GREEN signal! That means I am on my way to graduation! Awesome!

If you have not heard, Isis and I are staying in Indy. After going all over the country on interviews, our #1 pick decided to keep us. We're both thrilled to stay here because we love it! Even though it maybe called "Naptown", we always enjoyed living here. Our families and friends are here but more importantly we wanted to stay in a parish that we have grown to love! Thank you Lord for blessing us with what you want us to do and also what is in our hearts! Now next thing to do is find a house in our parish that we can raise a family! Xiao we're going to need your help on this.

Weekend Get-away

Leaving the busyness of the city and our respective work, Derrick and I drove up to Harbor CountRy in Michigan and enjoyed a weekend retreat. Here are some pictures from our trip.

And we also signed up to sponsor a 10 yo Filipino through the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging. The girl we chose loves to dance (like me!) and she wants to be a teacher when she grows up! Derrick and I will be sponsoring her schooling. Cool!

Almost a year

So Derrick and I are nearing our one year anniversary. Some thoughts to ponder --
1. Our first year went by so fast -- highs and lows, good times and bad times. Good reminder of our vows: "I promise to be true to you, in good times and in bad..."
2. Great Adventure - Derrick had his first Bible study ever last year! It was a great blessing. God planned it perfectly! The Great Adventure, A Journey Through the Bible covered 14 books of the Bible in a 24-week period. What a good foundation for Derrick to continue his study of Scripture! 3. Selflessness - Still working on that -- every hour of every day. In this marriage (or any marriage!), communication and compromise are very important.
4. Travel - God blessed me and Derrick with an awesome honeymoon (Paris and London!) and we also visited the Philippines between 3rd year and 4th year.
5. Working and helping each other- Derrick is an enormous help when I have troubles. And I feel that I also impart something to him-- may it be my passion for reading or exploring God's word, or my crazy, cheery self when I want to see him smile.
6. Our own family - It is truly a dream come true for me to have found my one, true love, one that I could absolutely share my growth and my drawbacks, my successes and my disappointments, my dreams and my fears.
7. Children - I have not changed my mind! I still want a big family! Children are blessings from the Lord. If it is his will for me and Derrick to raise x number of children -- so be it! "Children too are a gift from the LORD, the fruit of the womb, a reward." Psalms 127:3.
8. Trust - I will finish this entry with one of my several favorite verses: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, on your own intelligence rely not; In all your ways be mindful of him, and he will make straight your paths." Proverbs: 3:5-6.
