Black Friday Diva: Isabel's birth story

I am a slacker second time mummy. I totally did not blog about Isabel's birth story..... Poor Form!

Since Ms. Grace @ Camp Patton is hosting a link-up, I better put it out there the birth story of my second child! I am a sucker for link-ups and yes, I feel guilty about not printing her birth story out there in the blogger world for everybody to read!

Isabel was born Black Friday. Just a few days before my due date (5 only actually), when her brother Daniel, my firstborn, was 8 days early.

Soooooo. I totally had tons of belly ligamentous pain the 38 weeks onward and slept and laid in bed forever! But it's definitely true about the "burst of energy" before labor. I totally got that Thanksgiving Day. No pain at all from the ligaments getting pulled by my humongous belly. No Braxton Hicks! nada! I totally thought I will carry baby 2 to her due date.

Yet, labor pains started early Black Friday morning. Thanks to my trusty iPhone Labor app, I was able to track my contraction minute intervals. I was even chitchatting on the phone with my friend, Dr. HS even while having contractions. That was around 11a. {She said I totally impressed her, talking on the phone just 5 hours before I finally delivered}

Around 1p, I had to ask Derrick to bring me to the hospital cos yes, we are having a baby. I just know it. Even though, the contractions are only 5-6 minutes apart and some 3-4 minutes, they're irregular and inconsistent but yes, baby 2 is coming.

2p at the hospital: all checked in, changed to a glamorous gown. This time it was just me and Derrick. my mother did not want to be a labor support anymore. She volunteered to babysit Baby 1. (must be the stress of seeing somebody's pain WITHOUT meds). soooooo......

2:30ish IV started, that liter of fluid was placed on gravity mode w/o pump. I got a bolus of fluid as if I was a trauma patient... so you know what that means, I had trips to the throne several times, getting rid of all the fluid my vein just received.

In between, contractions, my husband offered to play Bones DVD on TV. It only played for 10 minutes maxed because I had to stop the movie. who can concentrate with the plot of decaying flesh and gorry bones when there's contractions every few minutes! even warrior Isis cannot do that....

at 3p I rated my pain as 7/10. Then just before the OB had to rupture the membranes, I rated it as 8/10. Heck I was trying to be brave! little did I know, I was already on full dilation mode and still with intact membranes. whatever.

I really don't have anything else exciting to say: just the fact that it was probably more painful this second time around. yet I only rated the pain <10 .=".">
So before 4p, I was already pushing.... And all I could say was "it hurts, it hurts".  (I think the RN might have said: of course honey, you're having a baby)

4:06p: Baby Isabel Francesca was born....

And hubby who did not cry when D was born, shed tears this time. When I asked him why, it was NOT tears of joy for Isabel but tears of relief that my suffering is over. {how sweet!}

Again, the medical staff and my hubby said I made this delivery look so easy. 2-3 minutes postpartum, even 2 days postpartum I was convinved they were lying. It was not easy. But now, 13 months later, I forgot all about the pain and yes, ready to welcome another baby into this world (maybe after this last year of residency).

Like for baby D's delivery, I offered up the pain for all those kids without parents who love them, or do not have family at all. Looks like I am not the only one offering up suffering, unifying them with the Lord's suffering.

And I am crazy enough to wanna do it again.
